New Years comes with an expectation of changing our ways and resolving to do things differently. I have always gone along with the masses promising to work out everyday, promising to eat healthier, even though I eat better than most of my friends, as well as things like go to bed earlier and floss. It’s useless. My resolutions last a week before I give up. This year I’m vowing to be different, let’s hope it lasts more than a week! I can feel it. 2015 will be my year! 1. I will put myself first.
I often put others’ needs in front of my own. I am putting my needs before everyone else’s not all the time. But in the times when I need it. When instead of feeling guilty about not going out, I will light some candles, have a bubble bath and watch a cheesy romantic comedy all by myself. And enjoy every minute of it!
2. I will only drink Coke when I need it.
I’ve read the articles, I have cleaned my soot off my fireplace with coke. I know how gross and awful coke is for you but sometimes, you just need one. Plus, it helps even the worst migraines! And let’s face it, it mixes really well with rye…
3. I will make myself happy.
I have recently decided to change jobs so I will put my heart and soul into finding the perfect job for me. But, I promise to do what’s right for me. I will find a job that I am in love with, in a city that I have never explored because I am 24 and I can! I will also not feel pressured into doing something that won’t make me happy. I will ultimately choose my own destiny in 2015!
4. I will put myself out there.
I am the eternally single girl with a few amazing friends. I am ridiculously shy in new situations. But in my travels, I have come out of my shell a lot. I will continue this trend and talk to strangers. And I promise to hold back a little, if and when it comes to a relationship.
5. I will send more letters.
I have been writing letters by hand and sending them to loved ones while I am abroad. I promise to continue doing this, in hopes, that one day I will have a fixed address to get something more than bills in the mail! But, not just because of that. Because, letters are more personal and tell more of a story than an email or a text will ever be able to!
6. I will be more grateful.
I will spend more time thinking about all of the wonderful things that I have in my life rather than being dragged down by the things that I wish I had. My loving, supportive family gets the majority of the weepy Skype calls, so I will try to have at least one positive thing to say every call because let’s face it, my life really isn’t that bad!
New Years leaves a lot to be desired. It is supposed to be a fresh start, it is supposed to be an opportunity to change. But why do we place so much on changing ourselves? Let’s look at it more of an opportunity to better ourselves. I am going to better myself by making little changes that will affect my everyday life, not the ones where I feel bad about myself because I didn’t follow through on the working out everyday pledge that I made to myself. What are your New Years Resolutions?
